Protect Our Children!! Innoculate Our Kids Against All Possible Viruses!
I think schools have a responsibility to help prevent the spread of disease in children. Sometimes that requires that children receive innoculations. These innoculations sometimes use a weakened live virus to aid the immune system of the child against a stronger virus.
Religion is a virus. We need to innoculate children against bad virus's from wacko sects by injecting them with safe virus's from mainstream religions. This is no different from using cowpox to protect against smallpox.
By providing children with the basic building blocks of religion, their "immune system" is strengthened against being assaulted by a more lethal strain of any type. Is it a coinicidence that the unswing in violent religions marches along with the removal of religion from school? Did Jim JOnes and David Koresh exist in 1935? Kids should be taught about a loving God and tolerance, not about beheading infidels. I think early indoctrination in a religion of tolerance will make it harder for them to accept a religion of intolerance.
I say increase our childhood innoculation program and prevent the spread of virulent strains of worship. Lets get the AMA on this issue, and the WHO! Keep a weak God in school!

I know this post is over a month old, but it has new-found currency in its relevence to the Shiavo case. Your proposed innoculation may prevent your children from someday taking part in a circus such as the one going on outside Terri Shiavo's Florida hospice. What's your take?
I think it is a hard question. As a parent, I would hate to have my disabled daughter's estranged husband making medical decisions for her that he may financially benefit from. On the other hand, marriage has meaning, and making this decision belongs to the husband unless she delegated to someone else.
My take is make a living will, and give the power to someone who will always love you, like a parent or child.
As for my kids taking part in the circus, I would find that pretty embarrassing for them and me. No matter how this turns out, it really ought to be a private matter for the family.
I am also frankly amazed that religious people would fear death so much. I could understand them praying for the souls of the killers of Schiavo, but shouldn't she be pretty safe?
Since this is a newly developed debate on this case, has either of you considered the hypocrisy of current administrations in the White House and Florida? Both of these religious conservatives (Brothers by blood and faith) feel that government should not intrude on people’s lives, but under this situation the government should intrude when it concerns the religious right. Thoughts?
I don't see the action as an intrusion by the government into a private affair for several reasons:
1. The legislatures were invited by one side.
2. The government was already involved because the case was in the courts. Court cases are public record.
3. The legislature was already involved because the case was being decided by government judges applying laws written by the legislature.
4. The legislature has a duty to correct laws that they believe the courts are misapplying.
5. Both the Florida state legislature and Congress have a duty to protect life if they think it is endangered.
The intrusion in people's lives had already occurred. Legislatures that think that an injustice is occurring because of their own failure to write laws that would be interpreted as they had intended must act, or they have no value.
I also don't think that the Bush brothers have similar religions. George is a fundamentalist, but Jeb is much closer to his father's religion.
